The Makita DUX18 is the power unit for a family of garden tool attachments, including line trimmers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, pole saws with many more available. It is powered by a single 18v LXT battery, making it light and portable. The unit has variable speed control with a soft start for smooth start-up plus an electric brake which stops the motor almost immediately after the trigger is released.

Other features include active AFT (active feedback sensing technology), which protects the unit and user by shutting down the tool if the rotation speed suddenly slows down and tool-less attachment installation.
